#2 The Urban Visionary
Richard Wurman, the architect and urban planner wondered what the effects of global urbanization. He set out a study called 19.20.21-information on 19 cities that will have more than 20 million people in the 21st century-to collect information about global urbanization.
The project's aim is collect and share information about cities therefore enhance the quality of life for people in cities. It can make cities around the world see themselves relative to others.
This is the first time that the world's population is mostly urban. The possibilities draw people to cities. Cities are changing every moment. Sometimes attempts we did for make better make worse. We have to think considerately before decide to change something.
Some bling buildings can impress people by individual but they are not necessarily wonderful within the fabric of city. They can not in the long run because the fabric is what makes the city.
I agree with Wurman's opinion. I think buildings should be part of the city. A enormous and bling building can attract people for short time. But it will not stay for a long time. It can rather harm the fabric of city. Great architecture is balanced with fabric of the city. So I hope new buildings of Seoul not only to be enormous and fancy but also be classical and harmonious. It could be nice if buildings reflect the Han-ok, the Korean traditional building.
